WE JUST HAVE A QUICK UPDATE AS WE PREPARE TO OPEN OUR DOORS TO OUR STUDENTS NEXT MONDAY, WE ARE MONITORING THE CURRENT SITUATION, NOT JUST WITH COVID, BUT ALSO WITH MONKEY POX. JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE GETTING PREPARED FOR ANY COMMUNICABLE DISEASE JUST AS WE DO IN ANY REGULAR YEAR, WE HAVE BEEN SEEING A TREND, AS YOU CAN SEE ON THIS GRAPH OF A PEAK THAT WE HAVE WITH COVID CASES INCREASE DURING THE SUMMER, BUT WE ARE STARTING TO SEEN THAT TREND IS STARTING TO DECREASE. WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE ESTABLISHING PROTOCOLS BASED ON ENSURING THAT OUR SCHOOLS AND FACILITIES ARE BEING SANITIZED AND DISINFECTED ON THE DAILY, ESPECIALLY THOSE HIGH TRAFFIC SURFACES TO ENSURE THAT WE ARE KEEPING A HIGH EXPECTATIONS ON HYGIENE AND PERSONAL ETIQUETTE. ENSURING THAT OUR FAMILY'S UNDERSTANDING WHERE WE STAND AND WE ARE FOLLOWING PRETTY MUCH THE SAME PROTOCOL GUIDELINES THAT WE HAD THIS SPRING. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. AS I MENTIONED, WE ARE FOLLOWING THE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME PROTOCOLS WE HAD ESTABLISHED FOR THE SPRING, WHERE MASK CONTINUED TO BE OPTIONAL, HIGHLY ENCOURAGED FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT NEED ANY KIND OF EXTRA PROTECTION. ALSO, WE ARE ENSURING THAT ANY INDIVIDUAL THAT IS SICK OR EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASE, A STAY HOME. WE ARE ALSO GOING TO BE ENSURING THAT WE ARE FOLLOWING TEA GUIDELINES AS FAR AS FAMILIES BEING NOTIFIED WHEN THERE HAS BEEN A CONFIRMED CASE ON CAMPUS SO THEY'RE GOING TO CONTINUE RECEIVING THOSE NOTIFICATIONS. [00:05:05] BECAUSE OF HOW COVID HAS EVOLVED, AND THE TOOLS THAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW AS FAR AS VACCINATION AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN SIX MONTHS AND OLDER, ALSO, THE TREATMENT OPTIONS THAT ARE AVAILABLE. WE ARE GOING TO BE TRANSITIONING OUR COVID DASHBOARD FROM BASICALLY THE CONTACT TRACING THAT WAS BEING DONE INTERNALLY SINCE CDC NO LONGER REQUIRES CONTACT TRACING EITHER THOSE TEA THE ISOLATION PERIODS HAVE BEEN SHORTING IT SINCE MAY SO NOW IT'S FIVE DAYS VERSUS 14 DAYS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC, AND ALSO CDC, RECENT CHANGES WHERE QUARANTINE IS NO LONGER ENCOURAGED EITHER. OUR DASHBOARD IS GOING TO BE LINKED TO THE HOUSTON HEALTH DEPARTMENT WASTEWATER DASHBOARD, WHICH WILL HAVE A MORE COMPLETE DATASET, BUT ALSO THE COMMUNITY AND SCHOOLS CAN DO SCHOOL BREAKDOWN SO THEY'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT THE COVID POSITIVITY RATE LOOKS LIKE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THAT'S GOING TO BE ONE CHANGE THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING, BUT OUR FAMILIES IS STILL GOING TO HAVE ACCESS TO THAT COVID REPORTING IS JUST THAT IT'S GOING TO BE COMING FROM THE HOUSTON HEALTH DEPARTMENTS RATHER THAN OUR TEAM. THE OTHER CHANGE THAT WE'RE DOING THIS YEAR SINCE WE NO LONGER WILL BE HAVING THE AXIOM SELF-CHECKING TORQUE APP, ARE ANY EMPLOYEE THAT BECOMES COVID POSITIVE WILL HAVE TO DO A SELF-REPORTING DOCUMENT AS WE ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO REPORT TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND ALSO TO TEA OF ANY CONFIRMED CASES IN OUR DISTRICT. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. THIS IS JUST A VISUAL OF WHAT THE COVID DASHBOARD WILL LOOK LIKE. AGAIN, IT IS PREPARED BY THE HOUSTON HEALTH DEPARTMENT, IT SHOWS THE VIRAL LOAD THAT IS CAPTURED TO WASTEWATER SAMPLES AROUND THE CITY AND IT HAS AN OPTION. I KNOW YOU CAN'T SEE IT THAT FAR PROBABLY, BUT ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT WHERE YOU CAN DO THEM, THE SCHOOL BREAK DOWN AND YOU COULD LOOK FOR DATA THAT IS SPECIFIC FOR YOUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. NEXT SLIDE. OUR COVID-19 ON CAMPUS TESTING PROGRAM IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE AVAILABLE THIS YEAR. WE ARE WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE HOUSTON HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO START TESTING IN SEPTEMBER AT OUR DIFFERENT CAMPUSES. LAST YEAR, WE HAD IT IN OVER 95% OF OUR CAMPUSES AND WE PLAN ON CONTINUING TO DOING SO. THE CADENCE MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. OUR FAMILIES THAT OBTAINING TO PARTICIPATE LAST YEAR WILL HAVE TO OPT-IN AGAIN THIS YEAR. IN PREPARATION FOR GOING BACK TO SCHOOL, WE'RE GOING TO BE HOSTING COMMUNITY DRIVE-THROUGH FOR OUR STAFF, STUDENTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY IN DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOLS AND IN OUR DISTRICT, AND SO WE HAVE SENT COMMUNICATION OUT WHERE OUR FAMILIES AND STAFF CAN REGISTER AND SELECT THE LOCATION THAT IS CLOSEST TO THEM. >> JUST AS A CLARIFICATION FOR THE PUBLIC, COULD YOU SHARE INSIGHT AROUND THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT, AND WHO FUNDS THIS. THAT QUESTION HAS STARTED TO COME UP BECAUSE THE ASSUMPTION IS OUT THERE THAT IS BEING PAID FOR WITH EXTRA FUNDS. >> NO. THE DISTRICT DOES NOT PAY ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING FOR TESTING PROGRAM. THE TESTING PROGRAM IS FUNDED DIRECTLY BY THE TEA THROUGH THE TESTING EFFORTS THEY HAVE DOING THROUGH THE PANDEMIC. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC, SOME OF YOU MAY RECALL THAT WE WERE DOING OUR OWN TESTING WHERE SOMEBODY ON THE DIFFERENT DEPARTMENT OR A NURSE ON CAMPUS WILL DO THE SWABBING, AND THEN TRY TO DETERMINE FROM THERE. WHAT HAS CHANGED SINCE THEN IS THAT TEA HAS ALLOCATED THOSE FUNDS TO, IN CASES LIKE HOUSTON, THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT, FOR THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO WORK WITH SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN MANAGING THE TESTING PROGRAM. THIS TESTING PROGRAM IS AT NO COST TO THE DISTRICT AT ALL, IT'S THE BENEFIT FOR OUR CAMPUSES TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THE CONVENIENCE OF THE STUDENTS OR THE STAFF BEING TESTED ON CAMPUS TO A PCR TESTING, AND GETTING RESULTS IN 24-36 HOURS. YES, MA'AM. >> THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT STAFF IS GOING TO BE UTILIZED FOR THE TESTING AT THE VARIOUS CAMPUSES? >> CORRECT. THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT CONTRACTS WITH AN EXTERNAL VENDOR, IN THIS CASE IS FULGENT. FULGENT PROVIDES A TEAM OF TWO OR THREE INDIVIDUALS THAT GOES TO THE CAMPUS ON THE DESIGNATED TESTING DATE. THEY ARE THE ONES THAT ARE DOING THE SWABBING OF THE SAMPLING. [00:10:01] THEN THEY TAKE THOSE SAMPLES, THEY PROCESS THEM, AND THEN THEY NOTIFY THOSE THAT HAVE PROVIDED CONSENT OF THE RESULTS OF THOSE TESTS SAMPLES. >> WHERE ON THE CAMPUSES? IS IT GOING TO BE AN ISOLATED AREA? >> USUALLY WE WORK WITH THE CAMPUS FOR A DESIGNATED AREA THAT CAN BE PRIVATE THAT IS OUT OF THE WAY SO THAT STUDENTS CAN GO GET TESTED. IT'S A LITTLE COVERED. AS YOU WILL KNOW, OUR CAMPUSES VARIED A LITTLE BIT, BUT SOMETIMES THEY DESIGNATE IN A SPECIFIC CLASSROOM OR THEY HAVE SOME AREA THAT THEY CAN PUT LIKE A CUPBOARD, I CAN'T REMEMBER HOW THOSE CALLS BUT THOSE LEAD ARE LIKE WALL COVERS. THEY ARE THERE FOR ABOUT 90 MINUTES. THEN DURING THOSE 90 MINUTES, THEY'RE TESTING, ANYONE THAT HAD PROVIDED CONSENT, AND WOULD LIKE TO BE TESTED THAT DAY. >> I WANTED THAT CLARITY FOR THE PUBLIC. AS WE TALK ABOUT HAVING THAT TESTING, ESPECIALLY ON CAMPUSES, SO WE CAN HAVE THEM RESTED ASSURED THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING TESTED EXPOSED TO THE REST OF THE POPULATION. >> NO. AGAIN, THE TEST AND IT WILL BE OPEN TO ANYONE, SO IT'S NOT JUST TO GIVE YOUR EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS SO I CAN FEEL PERFECTLY FINE, BUT MAYBE I WANT TO GET TESTED BECAUSE AS WE KNOW, COVID CAN ALSO BE ASYMPTOMATIC. THEN THAT PERSON GOES BACK TO THEIR NORMAL. UNTIL OTHERWISE PROVEN, BASICALLY RIGHT UNTIL THE TEST COMES BACK, THE PERSON CAN STILL BE ON CAMPUS UNLESS THEY ARE EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS, AND AT THAT POINT, THE NURSE OR A DESIGNEE FROM THE CAMPUS CAN MAKE A CALL, AND ASK FOR THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN TO COME AND PICK UP THE CHILD IF THEY'RE EXHIBITING ANY COMMUNICABLE DISEASE SYMPTOMS. >> THOUGH YOU HAVE NOT TOUCHED ON IT, IT MAY BE FORTHCOMING OR DO WE HAVE ANY PROTOCOLS IN PLACE FOR MONKEYPOX? BECAUSE WE'RE SEEING THAT CHILDREN ARE GETTING THAT AS WELL. >> THE PROTOCOLS IS THE SAME AS ANY OTHER COMMUNICABLE DISEASE THAT WE MIGHT HAVE A RISK IN WITHIN THE DISTRICT. I DO HAVE A SLIDE ABOUT MONKEYPOX, SO NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING IS IN THE PREVENTIVE AREA, AND INFORMING OUR FAMILIES WHAT THE CONVERSATIONS NEEDS TO BE AROUND CHILDREN BECAUSE WE KNOW OUR CHILDREN ESPECIALLY BEING SO SOCIAL, AND AFTER THE YEARS WE HAVE HAD WITH COVID, THEY WANT TO BE SHARING WITH FRIENDS. WE ARE DEFINITELY MAKING FAMILIES AWARE OF, WE DON'T WANT THEM SHARING DRINKS OR FOOD OR EVEN CLOTHING BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT THAT CAN BE A POTENTIAL RISK. WE ARE ALSO ENSURING THAT THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT THE SYMPTOMS ARE, AND THAT SYMPTOMS ARE NOT BEING MINIMIZED BECAUSE IN OTHER SETTINGS, IF SOMEBODY HAS A RASH, WE MIGHT NOT PAY ATTENTION TO IT. MAKING THEM AWARE OF THE SYMPTOMS, MAKING SURE THAT THEY'RE HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH THEIR CHILDREN ABOUT PERSONAL HYGIENE, AND ETIQUETTE. ALSO WE HAVE BEEN EMPHASIZING THOSE SAME KIND OF PROTOCOLS WITH OUR ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT SO THAT CLEANING OF ANYTHING THAT IS SHARED IS BEING MORE FREQUENT, AND ALSO NOT ENCOURAGING A LOT OF OUR ATHLETES AFTER A GAME, LIKE A CHANGE SHIRTS, WE'RE NOT HAVING ANY OF THAT. THAT IS THE RECOMMENDATION UNTIL THE SITUATION GETS UNDER CONTROL. >> FORGIVE ME FOR ALL THESE QUESTIONS, BUT I KNOW THEY'RE KIND OF QUESTION THAT TRUSTEES ARE GOING TO GET. THE OTHER PART OF THAT QUESTION IS, AS YOU MENTIONED ABOUT THE ATHLETES EXCHANGING JERSEYS OR WHATEVER, THEN THE CONCERN TOO IS WITH MONKEYPOX. IF THERE'S SOMEONE THAT HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SOMEONE, AND THEY'RE AT THE LUNCH TABLE WHERE THEY'RE AT, ESPECIALLY AT THE LUNCH TABLE WITH CHILDREN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WELL, ALL OF THEM ACTUALLY THEN OF COURSE, IF THERE'S SOME SPREAD OR OPEN LESIONS WHERE SOME OF THE GERMS ARE ON EQUIPMENT, THEN DO WE HAVE ANYTHING IN PLACE FOR THAT? >> AGAIN, IS THAT FREQUENT CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT, HIGH TOUCH SURFACES. AT THIS POINT, EVEN THOUGH WE CONTINUE TO SEE INCREASED HEADLINES AROUND MONKEYPOX, THE RISK FOR POPULATION LIKE CHILDREN STILL REMAINS VERY LOW UNLESS THERE'S AN OPEN LESION. AGAIN, AT THIS POINT, OUR BEST DEFENSE IS MAKING FAMILIES AWARE OF WHAT TO LOOK FOR, ENCOURAGING THEM TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IF THEY SUSPECT OF ANY KIND OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASE, AND JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE DOING OUR PART TO SANITIZE, AND DISINFECT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ALL THE DIFFERENT AREAS THAT WE CAN POST A RISK OF ANY KIND. NEXT SLIDE PLEASE. [00:15:02] THEN THIS IS JUST, AGAIN, AN OVERVIEW OF WHAT MONKEYPOX CASES WE HAVE IN OUR CITY. WE HAVE OVER 260. THIS DATA IS AS OF YESTERDAY. EVEN THOUGH AGAIN, WE HAVE SEEN A SLIGHT INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF CASES, THE RISK FOR THE GENERAL POPULATION REMAINS VERY LOW, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE'RE NOT ALERT, AND BEING PROACTIVE ABOUT ENSURING THAT WE'RE KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE. THAT IS MY UPDATE. DR. SCOTT. >> THANK YOU MA'AM. >> GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYONE. [SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING UPDATE] I'M ROBERTA SCOTT, DIRECTOR FOR THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, AND STUDENT DISCIPLINE DEPARTMENT. WE JUST WRAPPED UP OUR CURRENT ANNUAL DATA. AS YOU CAN SEE, OUR NUMBERS WERE HIGH FOR SUICIDE IDEATIONS. AS WE STARTED TO PLAN, AND PREPARE FOR THE WELCOME BACK OF OUR STUDENTS, AND OUR TEACHERS, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE TARGETED THE AREAS THAT WE SAW A HIGH NEED. OUT OF THE 118 THREAT ASSESSMENTS THAT WE WERE CALLED OUT TO, THERE WERE 20 THAT WERE ACTUALLY AT LEVEL 3, DEEMED AS HIGH RISK. THEN WE HAD 13 THAT WAS EITHER HARM TO SELF OR HARM TO OTHERS. THEN ALL OF THE 118 WERE PROVIDED EITHER SOME FORM OF DIRECT SUPPORT OR REFERRED OUT BASED ON THE NEED AND THE CAPACITY. NEXT SLIDE. AS WE RAMPED UP THIS PAST SUMMER FOR OUR TEACHERS TO RETURN, WE HAVE STARTED TRAINING OUT ALL OF OUR RISE CAMPUSES. WE WERE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR SUMMER LEARNING. WE DID OUR RESTORATIVE DISCIPLINE PRACTICES, WE DID TRAUMA INFORMED, AND WE ALSO DID CRISIS CAMPUS-BASED RESPONSE. WE ALSO JUST WRAPPED UP OUR TRAINING WITH THE HISD POLICE THAT WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH FOR QUITE SOME TIME, EITHER VIA THE STOP THE VIOLENCE RANT THAT WE HAVE WHERE THE POLICE GO THROUGH DE-ESCALATION. THEY DO THE CPI, WHICH IS THE NONVIOLENT PRICES RESPONSE, SO THAT THEY HAVE A PREVENTIVE APPROACH TO OUR STUDENTS. IT CHANGES THE NARRATIVE, AND REMOVES THE STIGMA. IN ADDITION TO THAT, WE'RE WORKING ON SOME OTHER TRAININGS, AND THAT'S ACTUALLY THE NEXT SLIDE. WE HAVE TARGETED OUR PSYCHOLOGICAL TRIAGE TRAINING, TRAUMA-INFORMED TRAINING. WE HAVE RESTORATIVE DISCIPLINE PRACTICES. WE HAVE INTEGRATING SEL INTO THE CLASSROOM. WE ALSO HAVE THE SCL CURRICULUM, AND SO WE KNOW THAT ALTHOUGH WE LAUNCHED THIS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, WE STILL ARE NOT GETTING THE NUMBERS THAT WE WANT TO SEE, BUT THOSE SKILLS WHICH ARE LIKE SELF-AWARENESS, SOCIAL AWARENESS, THOSE RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING SKILLS THAT OUR STUDENTS NEED, WE'RE STARTING TO SEE MORE AND MORE OF A NEED TO TEACH THOSE THINGS. WE ARE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO EMBED THAT INTO THE CURRICULUM, WHICH WE HAVE, AND SO THOSE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE BIG TICKET ITEMS AS WE ROLL OUT THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND WE JUST RECENTLY HIRED ABOUT 10 MORE, I WOULD SAY COUNSELORS TO SUPPORT THE CRISIS RESPONSE TEAM. >> CAN I ASK A QUESTION? >> YES. >> THE CURRICULUM, IS IT EMBEDDED INTO THE REGULAR CURRICULUM OR THEY TAUGHT THIS IN LIKE ADVOCACY CLAUSES OR WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? >> THERE ARE OPTIONS. AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL WE HAVE TWO OPTIONS, WHICH IS SANFORD HARMONY, WHICH WE'VE BEEN TRAINING ON FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS, AND THEN WE HAVE RETHINK IT, WHERE THEY'RE BOTH ONLINE NOW. PLATFORM THAT WE ARE WORKING WITH CAMPUSES TO EMBED IT INTO EITHER THEIR MORNING MEET TIMES OR ADVOCACY OR DURING THEIR ELECTIVE, ALSO INDEPENDENT PRACTICE TIME. WE'RE CREATING MORE OF AN AWARENESS THAT THIS RESOURCE IS AVAILABLE FOR OUR STUDENTS. EMBEDDING IT INTO WHEN STUDENTS NEED THAT EXTRA SUPPORT AROUND BEHAVIOR. WHEN WE GO OUT TO CAMPUS, WE RECOMMEND A COUPLE OF SESSIONS AND LESSONS AS RELATES TO THE SKILL THAT WE'RE FOCUSING ON. >> IT'S OPTIONAL AT THIS POINT? >> YES, MA'AM. >> THANK YOU FOR CLARIFYING. >> GOOD AFTERNOON. IS IT WORKING? [HISD POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE] GOOD AFTERNOON ALL. TODAY WE SIT HERE POST REVIVAL DAY. THERE ARE MANY AGENCIES AROUND THE NATION, ARE LOOKING AT THEIR PREPARATION AND TRAINING AND RESPONSE. IS IT ON? >> CLICK IT ONE TIME. [00:20:03] >> HOW ABOUT NOW? >> IT'S FINE. >> ALL RIGHT. WE SIT HERE TODAY POST UVALDE, AND A LOT OF AGENCIES AROUND THE NATION ARE LOOKING AT THE TRAINING AND PREPARATION AND RESPONSE IN THAT ACTIVE SHOOTER EVENT. WHICH SLIDE IS THIS? CAN GO BACK TO THE FIRST SLIDE, NEXT SLIDE. GO BACK ONE. I GUESS I HAD THE WRONG SLIDE. GO BACK TO THE POLICE SLIDE, PLEASE. ALL RIGHT. SINCE THE UVALDE INCIDENT, WE ALL LOOKING AT THE UVALDE ACTIVE SHOOTER PROTOCOLS. IN RESPONSE, WE ADDED AN ADDITIONAL EIGHT HOURS, CONSISTENT OF SCENARIO-BASED TRAINING AND HANDS-ON BREACHING TRAINING. WE ALSO TRY AND INCORPORATE THE SHIELD TRAINING. THE LAST WEEK, THE TRUSTEES APPROVED THE EQUIPMENT. SOONER WE SEE THAT EQUIPMENT WE'RE GOING TO DO MORE SCENARIO TRAINING. WE ARE ALSO COORDINATING WITH HPD TO CONDUCT JOINT ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING ON YEARLY BASIS. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE IN THE PAST. WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF COMPLETING THAT TASK NEXT MONTH IN SEPTEMBER. WE HAVE EIGHT OF OUR EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM OFFICERS. THEY'RE GOING TO PARTICIPATE IN BREACH. THEY TRAIN THE TRAINER, SO THEY CAN BRING BACK THAT TRAINING TO OUR DEPARTMENTS. WE COULD TRAIN OURSELVES INTERNALLY. WE ALSO ENSURE THAT ALL SUPERVISORS ARE TRAINED ON ICS AND THE NIMS PROCEDURE. THAT'S ONE OF THE DOWNFALLS IN UVALDE, BECAUSE IT WAS LACK OF COORDINATION AT THE TOP FROM LEADERSHIP WITH SO MANY RESPONDING AGENCIES. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO STEP UP AND KNOW THE PROCEDURE ON HOW TO SET UP THE COMMAND POST, ON THE CONTAINMENT TEAMS AND OTHER ASPECTS OF THE INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM. WE ALSO COORDINATE TO PROVIDE TRAINING TO ALL CIVILIAN PERSONNEL ON THE CRASE. WHICH IS THE CIVILIAN RESPONSE TO ACTIVE SHOOTER EVENTS. THAT'S SOMETHING WE'RE WORKING WITH MAX AND HIS TEAM, TO PROVIDE THE TRAINING AND WE'RE GOING TO PUT IT ON ONE SOURCE. ALL CAMPUS ADMINISTRATORS, ALL HIS, THE EMPLOYEES, WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO IN RESPONSE TO AN ACTIVE SHOOTER EVENT. I ALSO MET WITH CHIEF UNIQUE AND TDEM LAST WEEK, AND THAT'S THE TEXAS DIVISION EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO DISCUSS ISSUES INTERNALLY TO HIC AND ALSO EXTERNALLY TO OUR PARTNER AGENCIES IN HARRIS COUNTY. IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS WE CONTINUE THAT CONVERSATION. THE TEXAS IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING RESOURCES TO ALL AGENCIES HARRIS COUNTY TO HELP US BETTER PREPARE THE ACTOR SHOOTER EVENTS. I BELIEVE THAT'S ALL. >> THANK YOU, CHIEF LOPEZ. [RISK MANAGEMENT UPDATE] HELLO. MY NAME IS MELISSA LOPEZ. I AM THE MANAGER FOR SAFETY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT FOR THE RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT. WE'RE GOING TO GO OVER JUST A COUPLE OF UPDATES THAT WE HAVE FOR THE DEPARTMENT. FIRST, WE HAVE CREATED AND ORDERED SAFETY DRILL BADGES THAT WE WILL BE PASSING OUT TO ALL EMPLOYEES. WE WILL BE SENDING THESE OUT STARTING THE FIRST WEEK IN SEPTEMBER. WE HAVE SAMPLES THAT WE'RE PASSING AROUND FOR YOU ALL TO SEE IF YOU CAN JUST PASS THEM DOWN. IF YOU LOOK ON ONE SIDE IT JUST HAS ALL OF THE SYMBOLS FOR ALL OF THE REQUIRED DRILLS THAT SCHOOLS AND FACILITIES MUST CONDUCT. THEN ON THE OTHER SIDE IT HAS ALL OF THE DETAILS OF EACH DRILL, AND IT GIVES THAT INSTRUCTION FOR ADULTS TO KNOW HOW TO RESPOND TO EACH SAFETY DRILL. AGAIN, THAT'LL BE SOMETHING THAT'LL GO OUT THE FIRST WEEK IN SEPTEMBER. THEN THE NEXT SLIDE ARE THE REUNIFICATION PLAN. THE RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT IS FINALIZING OUR REUNIFICATION PLAN FOR THE DISTRICT. IT'S BEING CREATED FOR EVERYONE TO USE. WE'RE IN THE LAST STEPS OF THAT. IT INVOLVES, JUST TO GIVE A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON WHAT THE REUNIFICATION PLAN IS. IT'S A PROCESS THAT INVOLVES REUNITING THE STUDENTS WITH THEIR FAMILIES BY CONTROLLED RELEASE, IN THE EVENT OF A MASS EMERGENCY EVENT. STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES ARE MOVED AWAY FROM THE EMERGENCY SCENE AND THEY'RE TAKEN TO A DESIGNATED LOCATION TO BE RELEASED TO THEIR FAMILIES. AGAIN, IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'RE WORKING ON AS A DISTRICT AND WE'RE FINALIZING NOW. THEN THE NEXT ONE IS OUR SAFETY ACKNOWLEDGMENT FORM. I KNOW IT'S SMALL TO READ ON THE SCREEN, SO WE HAVE A HARD COPY THAT IF YOU ALL CAN JUST PASS IT DOWN FOR EVERYONE TO SEE. IT'S GOING TO BE AVAILABLE FOR PARENTS TO COMPLETE ON POWERSCHOOLS. IT WILL BE REQUIRED AS PART OF THE STUDENT ENROLLMENT FORMS THAT ARE FILLED OUT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. PART OF THIS FORM, IT WILL TELL PARENTS ABOUT THE REQUIRED DRILLS. IT'LL GIVE THEM SOME INFORMATION. YOU CAN SEE THERE IT HAS ALL OF THE SYMBOLS FOR ALL OF THE DRILLS THAT THEY MUST BE A PART OF. IT TALKS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE REUNIFICATION INFORMATION AND JUST REMINDING PARENTS THAT WE NEED TO HAVE THE MOST UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ON FILE. [00:25:04] BECAUSE IF WE WERE TO HAVE A SITUATION WHERE WE NEED TO GET IN TOUCH WITH PARENTS WE NEED TO HAVE GOOD CONTACT INFORMATION. THIS FORM SPEAKS TO THAT. ALSO, IT HAS THE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE ANONYMOUS REPORTING APP. IT GIVES THEM THE PHONE NUMBER AND IT TELLS THEM THAT THEY CAN DOWNLOAD THAT APP TO BE ABLE TO ANONYMOUSLY REPORT ANYTHING THAT THEY SEE. THEN WITH THAT, I WILL HAND IT BACK OVER TO MS. LAKOTA. >> THANK YOU, MELISSA. BRIEFLY IN THIS SESSION, I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF TEA ON JUNE THE 30TH ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, ARE INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CONDUCT THIS SUMMER SCHOOL SAFETY AUDIT. ESSENTIALLY, THERE ARE SEVEN MAIN BULLETS, IN WHICH APPLY TO OUR DISTRICT AND THAT WE MUST BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH. WHEN WE GO INTO CLOSED SESSION, I'LL GO INTO MORE DETAIL. OBVIOUSLY, THEY'RE SAFETY RELATED TO OUR DISTRICT. WE WANT TO KEEP THAT SAFETY INFORMATION CONFIDENTIAL, BUT I DID WANT TO SHARE THAT WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF FINALIZING AND COMPLETING THE AUDIT. I WANT TO REMIND EVERYONE, BECAUSE WE HAVE UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL TO COMPLETE THE AUDIT. WE WILL HAVE TO RECONVENE THIS MEETING TO BE ABLE TO GO OVER THE FINDINGS OF THAT AUDIT WITH YOU BEFORE WE SUBMIT BY THE SEPTEMBER THE 9TH DUE DATE. THIS AUDIT DID REQUIRE INPUT FROM SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS. THE RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, OUR FACILITIES DEPARTMENT, AS WELL AS CAMPUS FEEDBACK THAT WE NEEDED TO COMPLETE. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 47 QUESTIONS RELATED TO THIS AUDIT. AGAIN, WE'LL GO INTO MORE DETAILS IN CLOSED SESSION. I BELIEVE, NEXT SLIDE THAT CONCLUDES OUR OPEN SESSION. YES. AT THIS TIME, [ADJOURN TO CLOSED OR EXECUTIVE SESSION UNDER SECTIONS 551.071, 551.076, AND 551.089 OF THE TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE FOR THE PURPOSES LISTED BELOW] THE COMMITTEE WILL NOW ADJOURN TO CLOSED SESSION UNDER TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE SECTIONS 551071, 551076, AND 551089 IN ORDER TO REVIEW THE DISTRICT'S MULTI HAZARD EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN AND THE DISTRICTS ACTIVE THREAT PLAN. WE'RE GOING TO ACTUALLY MOVE. FOR THOSE COMMITTEE MEMBERS THAT I CALLED YOUR NAME, WE'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO MOVE TO THE BOARD SERVICES AREA. THIS MEETING IS NOW RECONVENED IN OPEN SESSION. THE TIME IS NOW 5:20 P.M. BEFORE I CLOSE IT OUT I JUST WANT TO FORMALLY, I DIDN'T GET TO INTRODUCE AND THANK ASSISTANT CHIEF CANTU FROM THE HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT. THANK YOU SO MUCH. SHE WAS KIND ENOUGH TO COME IN LIEU OF CHIEF HENNESSY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING THE COMMITTEE TODAY. WITH THAT SAID, IF THERE'S NO FURTHER BUSINESS TO DISCUSS, THE MEETING OF THE SAFETY AND SECURITY COMMITTEE MEETING WILL NOW ADJOURN AT 5:20 P.M. THANK YOU ALL. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
