THE LAST REFERENCE WE COULD FIND TO ANY OF THEM WAS DURING HURRICANE HARVEY WHEN THEIR EXISTENCE WAS MENTIONED, BUT NO DETAILS WERE GIVEN. WE KNOW THAT OUR NURSES ARE VALUED AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE RECOGNIZE THEM, AND ALSO, AS WE HEARD EARLIER, HAPPY ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH AS WELL. JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN A FLY IN TO DC THAT OFFERED ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SOME LOBBYING. WHILE THERE WE HAD THE CHANCE TO CONNECT WITH SOME WHITE HOUSE AIDES, AS WELL AS A NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL TO CONNECT. VERY, VERY PRODUCTIVE TIME PERIOD THAT ALLOWED FOR US TO PUT A FACE IN FRONT OF THE INDIVIDUALS AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL THAT ARE IN DC. SO, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE CONNECTIONS CAN SOMEHOW TURN INTO ADDITIONAL FUNDS, ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS. SO A VERY PRODUCTIVE TIME PERIOD. ALSO WANTED TO SHARE THAT YESTERDAY I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND OR PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS WITH OUR SUPERINTENDENT SCHOLARS AWARDS TO FIVE DESERVING HISD SENIORS. PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING AND JOYFUL TIME PERIODS THAT I'VE HAD THIS YEAR. ONE OF THOSE SCHOLARS ACTUALLY RECEIVED A AN ADDITIONAL $35,000 FROM A LOCAL FAMILY FOUNDATION AS WELL. THE OTHERS RECEIVED $2,600 APIECE. WE'LL BE DOING THE OTHER HALF NEXT WEEK, AND THEN LASTLY, JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ALL WERE AWARE THAT TOMORROW EVENING IS OUR ANNUAL EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR EVENT. WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO CELEBRATING OUR OUR EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR. WE KNOW WE HAVE FABULOUS EDUCATORS HERE IN HISD, AND IT'S OUR OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE THEM AS WE TYPICALLY HAVE.
